CLEVERTEX

Development of a strategic Master Plan for the transformation of the traditional textile and clothing
into a knowledge driven industrial sector by 2015
(SSA 517006, EU funded project).

Starting date: 01/10/2005; closing date: 31/03/2008; total project cost: 487,190 Euros; total EC funding: 487,190 Euros.

CLEVERTEX aims at developing a master plan and framework for future actions in research, education and technology transfer in the field of multi-functional intelligent textile materials in Europe for transforming the industry into a dynamic, innovative, knowledge-driven competitive and sustainable sector by 2015.

Multifunctional intelligent textiles are materials and systems, which react in an intelligent manner to external stimuli. For example, a fabric that inflates at a low temperature to keep the wearer warm, a professional garment that changes colour to warn of biologic contamination, underclothes sending out an alarm signal to the medical assistant nearby when the patient's vital parameters are jeopardised, or a carpet to detect flood, fire or burglary …

The work programme will include:

Analysis of the available European knowledge base for intelligent textiles;

Investigation into the socio-economic framework of the textile and clothing sector;

Foresight: Design of the Delphi study strategic analysis for identification of prioritised needs, for the transition to a knowledge based industry;

Gap Analysis and feasibility;

Road mapping;

Exploitation, dissemination and management
